Late start today due to me wantching liverpool play, the kick off was 5.30am here ! Ian picked us up at the dock and off we went leaving at 7.45. We stopped at a bank just short of the reef to look for some mackerel, Billy had a take straight away but it missed the hooks then i had a small spanish mackerel on a red hed shallow diver, 10 minutes later it was reel in and off to net some live bait, as before there were pelicans diving and bait all over so one throw and the livewell was full.
Once outside the reef we set up the livebait rigs and started a slow troll, I had a couple of cuda quite early and billy managed to get the clever fish his side leaving him with a head on the hook all the time ! we decided to anhor on the edge of the reef and let out rope untill we were over the drop off, that was hard work due to the water being a lot more coloured than normal, eventually we got sorted and over went the baits, whole sprats/ sardines on 8/0 circles to 50lb line, we also had flyer rigs out with a livebaits free swimming, i manged a cuda straight away on mine then had a bang on the bottom bait wich resulted in a nice red snapper, next drop over I had a little tap the the rod bent over as something big got hold of it, after a long fight that let most of my muscles aching i landed a monster of a mutton snapper, after that it was few more bites that missed the hook and another cuda on the live bait, Billy in this time was having a nightmare, there were still no fish getting his hook, they just bite the baits in half or took the bait clean off.
we then tried to troll a bank inside the reef after king fish but it was to rough to see the edges properly so we made the wet trip back home again.
